0–4 seconds: the camera rises beside shops and parked vehicles in a Promontory plaza. 4–8 seconds: rooftops give way to nearby homes, trees and green space. 8–13 seconds: the wider residential area and valley fill the view. This clip has no audio or spoken narration.
Take in the view from inside the home
Promontory’s homes sit at different elevations along the hillside. The direction a home faces and its position on the street can make a real difference to its outlook, light and privacy.
At a showing, spend time in the rooms and outdoor spaces you would use most. Notice nearby roofs and trees, where the afternoon light falls and how private the patio feels. Ask about potential changes on neighbouring lots that could affect the view.
Try the driveway and daily routes
Walk from the parking space to the front door and yard. Consider the driveway’s slope, turning room and steps, especially if you have mobility needs, more than one vehicle or frequent visitors. Make sure the parking works for the vehicles you use.
Try the drive to your regular stops at the time you would normally travel. Routes to shops, schools and walking paths vary across Promontory. Ask the owner how they look after the driveway and outdoor areas through the seasons.
- Check that the driveway and entrance suit your vehicles and mobility needs.
- Look at how much of the yard you could use for your plans.
- Ask about drainage, retaining walls and maintenance records.
- Take in the view and natural light from the rooms you would use most.
Explore the local trails
The City’s Promontory parks and trails directory includes the Promontory Walkway, Teskey Creek Trail and Thom Creek Trail. The Thom Creek listing describes gravel and dirt surfaces, with parking access from Teskey Way, Sylvan Drive and MacFarlane Place.
Pick a trail you would enjoy using and try the route from the home to its entrance. Check that there is a public connection, even if the trail looks close on a map. The City’s current listings are a useful place to check access details and conditions before heading out.
Check the school route
Use School District 33’s school locator to find the catchment for each home, then confirm it with the district. Try the school journey as well as your shopping and walking routes to get a fuller picture of daily life here.
Questions buyers ask
Does every Promontory home have a valley view?
No. Views depend on the home’s position, the surrounding trees and buildings, and the room you are in. Look out from the living spaces and yard during your visit; an aerial photograph gives you a feel for the area but a different perspective from the home.
What should I check on a hillside property?
Look at the driveway, entrance, usable yard, drainage and retaining walls. Ask about maintenance records and anything that needs closer inspection. Think about how you would use the outdoor space, since a larger lot may include sloping ground.
Where can I find current Promontory trail information?
The City of Chilliwack’s Promontory parks and trails directory lists local routes and access details. Choose a trail, check its entrances and surfaces, then see how you would get there from the home.
